Induction Day
The focus of the day was to introduce the Apprentices to idverde and outline what to expect from their 2-year programme with CAFRE to achieve a City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in work-based Horticulture as well as set expectations for the roles and responsibilities of the Apprentice, Buddy and Manager.
Laura Henderson, Employability Manager, led the day by explaining the Apprenticeship programme and how the company will support our Apprentices in their career journey with idverde. “idverde are here to ensure you get the most out of your Apprenticeship, we’re here to nurture your training and development.”
Barry Mott, Operations Manager, provided an overview of the Company, its’ journey in NI and his own career development within idverde. Ian Patterson, Contracts Manager, gave a Health & Safety talk reminding all present of the importance of always working safely. Finally, Sam Toner, Chargehand, gave a talk of his personal experience being a Buddy and what characteristics are required from this vital role. Sam said “It’s important for a Buddy to have the right characteristics to support and guide their Apprentice and to always be approachable and honest.”
The 4 teams participated in a team building activity – the marshmallow challenge. The team who built the highest structure won a £25 Amazon voucher each. Finally the group enjoyed lunch and had a chance to get to know each other before returning to their separate depots.
