idverde Proud To Maintain 120 Green Spaces in a Record-Breaking Year | Green Flag Awards

This year, we saw a record-breaking 2,127 green spaces receive the Green Flag Award, with 120 of those proudly maintained by idverde. The Green Flag Awards, which is celebrating 25 years, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces around the world.

idverde supports clients with the awards application process and has 25 trained Green Flag Judges who understand the requirements for achieving the flag. Our Green Space Development Team has helped achieve awards for:

Bromley (seven Green Flag Awards and one Community Award)

Hammersmith and Fulham (19 Green Flag Awards)

South London Waste Partnership Sutton (four Green Flag Awards)

Northampton (three Green Flag Awards)

Charnwood Borough Council (one Green Flag Award and one Community Award)

Mid Sussex District Council (four Green Flags)

idverde’s clients received awards in the East Midlands, East of England, London, South East, South West, and West Midlands areas. Additionally, Hastings Borough Council achieved a Green Heritage Site Accreditation for Alexandra Park, which is also maintained by our Grounds Maintenance team.

Another of our clients, Southwark Council, impressively received the most awards for the inner London area once again and is joint fifth across the UK for receiving the most awards. Speaking about their achievements, Southwark Council said:

“Thank you to all the grounds people and other staff who have kept our parks to a high standard through such a challenging year. We’re proud to have retained our 30 Green Flags for another year - that’s the most in Inner London and joint fifth across the whole of the UK”

Managing public spaces, we understand the value they bring to both mental and physical wellbeing. We have worked with public sectors to create breathtaking spaces for their communities. A survey conducted by YouGov shows that 85% of adults say it is important for them to have access to good quality parks and green spaces. With more people continuing to use green spaces even after the lockdown period, it is especially important to ensure they have access to quality outdoor spaces.

Commenting on the announcement of this year’s winners, Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton OBE said:

“As the Green Flag Award celebrates 25 years of raising the standard, Keep Britain Tidy is delighted to be the custodian of a scheme that does so much to ensure our parks and green spaces go from strength to strength. At a time when parks have been at the heart of every community across the country, it is perhaps not surprising that 95% of the public thinks that their local parks and green spaces need to be protected. This is why the Green Flag Award is so important. It ensures that parks and green spaces are managed to the highest standards and are safe and accessible for everyone to enjoy and we look forward to the next 25 years.”

Andrew Kauffman, idverde’s Head of Green Spaces Development said:

“On the 25th Anniversary of the Green Flag Awards, idverde is proud of its long-standing relationship with the Green Flag campaign. We continue to work alongside local authority clients and communities across the UK to ensure we keep the flags flying in idverde maintained parks and open spaces, which all contribute to the health and wellbeing of the nation. We also actively develop new Green Flag Management Plans in partnership with the client, Friends of Parks groups and idverde’s 25 trained Green Flag Judges. Here’s to the next 25 years.”
