idverde Supports Colchester’s Tree Give Away Event

idverde was delighted sponsor Colchester Borough Council’s free trees giveaway again this year, in a record-breaking year which saw the Council give away a record-breaking free 10,000 trees, shrubs, and fruit bushes to Colchester residents, community groups, schools, and town and parish councils.

The event is now in its 14th year, and idverde, has been proud to help fund the event, as well as providing support on the day, since becoming the council’s grounds maintenance provider in April 2016.

This year’s event took place on Saturday 22nd February at the Colchester United JobServe Community Stadium. To mark the start of a new decade and as part of the Colchester Woodland Project, 10,000 trees, shrubs, and fruit trees were available, including field maple, hazel cobnut, hornbeam, holly, rowan, lavender, hawthorn, raspberry, blackcurrant, and gooseberry bushes.

The tree giveaway started at 10:00, but people began queuing at 07:30 to claim their free trees, with 10 plants available per household, and 50 plants for each community group, school, or town or parish council.

idverde’s Operations Manager, Rob Wilson, was on hand on the day to help support the event, and said: “Giving away 10,000 trees this year certainly brought the people of Colchester in their droves to the community stadium; the car park was absolutely packed. By 1:30 the crowds had gone, but it was amazing to see so many people turn out on such a wet and windy day and we were delighted to be able to support the event once again.”
