More projects for LovellCastleward is a mixed residential and commercial regeneration development in Derby. The project is a joint venture between Lovell and Riverside Group and acts on the Derby Cityscape Masterplan, a £2bn transformation of Derby’s city centre.
idverde was appointed in phase one of the development to landscape the new boulevard on the main through-fair in the city, connecting the new community with the centre of Derby. idverde was chosen for their their ability to offer a vast range of services including landscaping, grounds maintenance and playground installation.
The client requested for sections of the play equipment to be easily replaced if damaged. idverde used an innovative solution rather than the traditional method, fitting the posts into steel brackets and installing them into the ground. This allowed for easy replacement if required, with minimal groundworks and damage to the surface. The client had a very specific bespoke design for the climber and had already identified a supplier. Through value engineering, the team were able to offer a cost-saving solution by using their own manufacturers to build the climber to the same design.
The fencing was bespoke, fitting the elaborate contours of the boundary and in some areas, it had to be installed into extremely hard granite blocks. As the boulevard was built on a public highway, idverde’s teams worked extended early hours to avoid public disruption.
idverde was able to deliver the fencing, surfacing, play area installation, mature tree planting and landscaping of the boulevard. They used their in-house, directly employed teams; avoiding outsourcing and subcontracting works whilst remaining within budget. The area benefited from an exciting central feature to the residential and public open space plots, bringing life to the Castleward development.
