Edge Lane Corridor

idverde successfully delivered a series of large-scale public realm and infrastructure projects as part of the regeneration of Liverpool’s Edge Lane Corridor, helping transform one of the city’s most important transport routes into an attractive, accessible and sustainable gateway.

Appointed by Liverpool Land Development Company as one of two framework contractors, idverde delivered works across four major projects with a combined framework value of £10 million. The programme formed part of a wider regeneration initiative aimed at reversing years of decline along the strategic route linking the M62 motorway with Liverpool city centre, ahead of the city’s role as European Capital of Culture.

The regeneration programme combined civil engineering, hard landscaping and soft landscaping to improve both the functionality and visual character of the corridor. Across the Edge Lane Central phases, works included extensive site clearance, upgraded pedestrian crossings, resurfaced footways, granite paving, tree planting and environmental improvements designed to create safer, higher-quality public spaces.

At Edge Lane Drive, the existing road was transformed into an urban boulevard through new landscaping, resurfacing, upgraded lighting and improved pedestrian infrastructure. Sustainable paving materials manufactured from quarry waste were used to reduce environmental impact, while more than 100 semi-mature trees, shrubs and grassed areas helped create a greener streetscape.

The Science Park formed another major element of the programme, requiring significant earthworks, drainage infrastructure and landscape construction. The completed public space incorporated raised lawns, bespoke lighting, high-quality granite paving, custom street furniture, more than 50,000 shrubs and 200 semi-mature trees, creating an attractive environment that supports both business and public use.

Delivering construction works on a live dual carriageway required careful planning and close coordination with Liverpool Land Development Company, project architects and the highways authority. This collaborative approach ensured that complex engineering and traffic management challenges were addressed efficiently while minimising disruption throughout the programme.

The completed regeneration has significantly enhanced one of Liverpool’s most prominent urban corridors, improving accessibility, strengthening the public realm and creating a greener, more welcoming entrance to the city.

The quality of the project was recognised nationally with a BALI National Landscape Award in the Hard Landscapingcategory for projects with a construction value exceeding £1.5 million.
